Texas Stone Products is one of the premier suppliers of natural building stone
products in the Southwest. For over twenty years, our clients have used
our wide selection of building stone and fabrication methods to craft their own
individual masterpieces. The natural colors offered by native Texas Hill
Country sandstone offers a wonderful palette for architects, developers,
masons and homeowners to build creations reminiscent of enchanting
Mediterranean villages or match the timeless appeal of the majestic
courthouses of Texas.
Our
quarry provides the following types of stone:
Boulders,
natural patio stone and building stone, hand chopped stone
Sawn/chopped, sawn patio stone, dimension cut stone
Our
colors include:
Texas Pearl -
white limestone that is commonly known as Austin White limestone throughout
Central Texas. Initially used by pioneering settlers primarily for homes, this
stone has been used extensively in the Hill Country area by homeowners and
commercial builders. White to antique–white in color, with hues of cream to
yellow or rust, this stone has become popular for those attempting to create
that rugged southwestern motif.
Tumbleweed Tan
- our most popular color.
This stone brings to mind images that range from the distant villas of Tuscany
to a winter landscape in West Texas. The subtle shimmer of quartz in the stone
accents the rich tones of tan, buff, khaki, and light brown. Wonderfully
versatile, it can be fabricated in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for use on
building exteriors, landscapes, and interior design.
Autumn Blend
- an array of warm colors achieved through the combination of Tumbleweed Tan
mixed with accent stones in shades of brown, gold and rust. The result is a
blend reminiscent of the colors seen on an autumn evening in front of a roaring
fire. These colors are equally beautiful in exterior or interior applications.
Old Hickory Blend
- a unique combination of sandstone created through centuries of exposure to the
elements. The rich blends of dark browns, charcoal grays, and occasionally
live-oak moss overlay the surface. These pieces are combined with the harvest
colors of our Autumn Blend to attain a stunning look. Old Hickory will help to
accentuate the natural sylvan beauty in any home or landscape.
- Our
exclusive
Texas
Red
is sandstone that is truly unique to Texas and to Texas Stone Products.
Through an arrangement with the descendents of the original quarry
operators, we have reopened the site and have exclusive rights to mine this
beautiful stone. Favored by renowned architect J. Reily Gordon, Texas Red
can be found in the design of many of Texas’ grand courthouses, including
those in Bexar, Ellis, and Fayette Counties. Recent projects using this
stately building stone include the McDonald Observatory, Farmers Branch Justice
Center, and University of Texas at San Antonio.
A GENERAL NOTE
ABOUT COLOR
As a product of
nature, one of the wonderful things about stone is the unique quality of your
finished masterpiece. Specific colors or projects are almost impossible to match
exactly, but your quarry and mason can work with you to achieve a similar look
to another project if you are willing to be flexible.
The most
colorful pieces of our sandstone (other than Texas Red) achieve their color from
the patina or outside ‘skin’ of the rock. This presents two important issues to
customers:
-
If
a piece of rock has an outside layer of color, only 16% or 1/6th
of the building stone will have color. When people see the stone in a pile on our
yard (or theirs upon delivery) they occasionally have the reaction that the
stone does not have as much color as they wanted. Take the pieces and start
turning them or wash the dust off. The overwhelming majority of the time
customers do this, they ‘find’ the color they thought they were ordering.
-
The end results of your
project will depend on the masonry crew. If every piece has one side of
color, but is turned to the inside of the wall, a very different look will
be achieved than if the color is managed. A sample panel and a good flow of
communication with your mason about the look you want are very important. We
have great relationships with masons in the Hill Country and would be happy
to give you referrals if you request them.
